The UK Government yesterday (3 November) laid its Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging and Packaging Waste) (Amendment) Regulations 2025 before Parliament, updating the 2024 regulations.

ISWA has published a roadmap for closing the world’s biggest dumpsites, a ‘global health emergency’ accounting for around 40 per cent of the world’s waste and presenting severe health risks to the four billion people that use them.

More than £9 billion could be added to the UK economy through the integration of circular economy principles into industrial strategy, says waste management company SUEZ.
The resources industry has welcomed the publication of a plan to introduce more consistent recycling across England in an attempt to increase participation and decrease contamination of kerbside recycling services. Knowing what happens to recycling once it’s been collected is a growing motivation in English residents’ participation in council recycling services, especially for those under the age of 35, according to research commissioned by the Resource Association.

97 per cent of businesses think they are fulfilling their legal waste obligations, despite the fact that nearly half are risking prosecution through non-compliance, a survey of SMEs has found.
Companies and councils with ‘outstanding projects, innovation or successful resource management endeavours’ have until Friday (9 September) to apply for a 2016 CIWM Sustainability and Resource Award. The awards which aim to recognise outstanding achievements in a variety of operational and academic disciplines, with prizes are up for grabs for the best recycling projects, communications campaigns, project innovation, reuse initiatives and facility operations as well as a number of research-based categories.
