Biffa increases Small Grants Scheme to £10,000

Community and environmental projects across the UK can access grants of up to £10,000, under changes to Biffa Award’s Small Grants Scheme.

The scheme, set up in 1997 by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT), has been awarding grants to environmental and community projects from money donated by waste management company Biffa Group Ltd.

Updated to ‘streamline’ the application process, the scheme will now offer grants of between £250 and £10,000 – double the previous upper limit – in the hopes of allowing smaller-scale projects (with a total project cost of less than £30,000) to ‘get off the ground’ more quickly.

Cath Hare, Biffa Award Acting Programme Manager, said: “We are pleased to announce that the changes to our Small Grants Scheme will allow a larger number of small-scale community projects quicker access to funding.

“Those groups applying for between £5,000 and £10,000 will no longer be subject to the lengthier Main Grants Scheme process, meaning that we will be able to distribute these smaller amounts faster than before.

“This can only be good news for those looking to improve their local communities with small-scale community and environmental projects, and we look forward to receiving their applications.”

To date, Biffa Award has funded grants totalling more than £125 million.
