Ian McAulay appointed new CEO of Viridor
Utility company Pennon Group Plc has today (5 August) appointed Ian McAulay as the group’s new Executive Director and Chief Executive (CEO) of waste management company Viridor (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pennon).
Following the new CEO’s official start date of 9 September 2013, Viridor’s current CEO Colin Drummond, who announced his intended retirement in March of this year, will assume the position of Non-Executive Chairman.
Ian McAulay’s appointment comes as the result of a ‘robust and thorough’ recruitment and selection process led by Pennon Group’s Chairman Ken Harvey, and was supported by the group’s Nominations Committee.
Speaking of the latest change in directorate, Ken Harvey said: “I am delighted to welcome Ian to Pennon Group. He brings with him extensive experience of developing and delivering large scale, capital intensive infrastructure projects in both regulated and unregulated businesses and management of major complex organisations, which I believe will prove invaluable to the company.”
‘Knowledge and experience’
McAulay is a chartered civil engineer, with a degree in civil engineering, and has completed the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Programme and Cambridge University and Environment Programme.
He has held a number of consulting civil engineer positions with Crouch and Hogg and Montgomery Watson, was Managing Director of Capital Programmes at United Utilities and is currently Chief of Global Strategy and Corporate Development with MWH Global.
Welcoming the new appointment, Viridor’s retiring Chief Executive Colin Drummond, said: “I am delighted with Ian's appointment to lead Viridor on the next stage of its growth and to continue the development of its strategy. Viridor has secured an enviable pipeline of public private partnerships and a £1.5bn investment programme building green infrastructure to maximise recycling and energy generation from waste.
“The knowledge and experience Ian brings to the business, together with the talent and skills we already have within the company, will confirm Viridor's position as one of the UK's leading recycling, renewable energy and waste management companies.”
