Large Scale Infrastructure and Reprocessing Fund
WRAP Cymru is reminding Welsh businesses that they can still apply for a share of £4 million of European funding available for infrastructure dealing with commercial and industrial wastes.
Under the Large Scale Infrastructure and Reprocessing Fund – part of WRAP Cymru's Accelerating Reprocessing Infrastructure Development (ARID) – up to 40 per cent match funding is available for infrastructure that deals with wastes that will add value to recycled materials and provide ‘high-quality recyclate’ for Welsh manufacturers.
Target materials include organics/compost (excluding paper and card), plastics, treated/contaminated wood, WEEE, textiles, flooring, tiles, insulation and composites.
The programme, funded by the European Regional Development Fund via the Welsh Government, has been available since September and supplies grants of £250,000 to £500,000 to reprocessors in Wales's Convergence Region (comprised of West and North West Wales and the South Wales Valleys). There are just six week left to apply for funding.
To be eligible for the grants, businesses must have fewer than 250 employees and an annual turnover below €50 million (£41 million).
WRAP Cymru European Projects Manager Bettina Gilbert said: “The ARID programme recognises the economic boost which the recycling and reprocessing sector brings to Wales, and the importance of developing a domestic market for recyclate.
“Our target for the Large Scale Infrastructure Fund is to create 30 new green jobs in the areas where they are most needed, and prevent over 150 kilotonnes of C02 emissions.
“The fund can also act as a catalyst for businesses to leverage additional funding for their capital projects. Being able to demonstrate that they are able to secure ERDF funding can really boost a company’s chances of attracting other sources of investment.”
Reprocessors wishing to apply can contact Bettina Gilbert at WRAP Cymru.
The deadline for applications for the current round of WRAP Cymru’s Large Scale Infrastructure and Reprocessing Fund is 1.30pm on Tuesday 4 December.
ARID funding is also available for recycling collections and bring sites for small and medium businesses, and for manufacturers that want to use recycled materials in their products.
