Death of man found at waste plant ‘not suspicious’

The death of a young man whose body was found at New Earth Solutions' Avonmouth MBT plant is not being treated as suspicious, police have said.

Garrett ElseyThe body of the young man, now identified as Canadian student Garrett Elsey, 22, was found at the New Earth Solutions waste centre in Avonmouth, Bristol last Thursday (28 September). His family have been informed of the death.

A post-mortem examination has taken place but ‘further investigations’ will be carried out before the cause of death can be confirmed.

Elsey, who was due to begin a master’s degree in International Security at Bristol University, had only been in the UK for one day before going missing after a night out in Bristol with a friend.

His body was found by workers at New Earth Solutions’ waste treatment facility at Kings Weston Road, at 10.20am the following morning.

Police searched bins in nine locations across Bristol, and officers are now concentrating their investigation at a block of flats in the Hotwells area. They are said to be keeping an ‘open mind’ about the circumstances leading up to his death.

The investigation continues.
