Veolia launches online organic waste marketplace

Waste management company Veolia has launched a new BioTrading website allowing businesses access to an online marketplace to buy and sell organics resources.

In an announcement today (16 April), Veolia revealed the new site, which aims to save businesses time and money by connecting them directly to the organics market, finding them the best deals for their organic waste needs.

Navigating the organics marketplace can be confusing for buyers as there is no price comparison or trading platform for organic resources. The BioTrading website, by dealing directly, will enable sellers get a good price for their product and extract maximum value from their waste and process by-products, while benefiting from access to a central platform boasting transparent and fair prices.

Commenting on the launch of the website, Raquel Carrasco, Organics and Technology Director at Veolia UK, said: “Our new BioTrading website is the missing link for the UK’s organic resources and represents a real step forward in innovation. By operating as an agile trading platform it is a financial and environmental win-win for both buyer and seller. For the UK, it means more waste can be turned back into resources, boosting sustainability, delivering value and promoting a more circular economy.”

The service is aimed at anyone who has resources, or requires them, such as farming, water, construction, food and drink, anaerobic digestion, and the biodiesel and bioethanol industry. A wide range of resources will be made available on the website including food waste, food for redistribution, industrial organic by-products, agricultural wastes, biodiesel and bioethanol residues, sewage and industrial sludge and wood. Logistics buyers can also make use of compliant haulage services if required.

BioTrading follows in the footsteps of Organix, the ‘first digital marketplace for organic waste’ launched by waste management company SUEZ in France in the summer of last year. The platform aimed to connect organic waste producers with biogas facility operators across France with the aim of furthering the circular economy and aiding the transition to cleaner energy at a local and regional scale.
