SUEZ announces partnerships for EfW carbon capture and storage in North-East

Pre-FEED contractors appointed for development of energy-from-waste facilities in Teesside as part of the East Coast Cluster.

SUEZ recycling and recovery UK has partnered with Preliminary Front End Engineering and Design (Pre-FEED) contractors for two projects to capture and store carbon in the East Coast Cluster industrial zone. The project aims to install carbon capture technology in existing energy-from-waste facilities at the Haverton Hill Industrial Estate and at Wilton, both on Teesside.

The waste management company has announced its intention to apply for funding under the Industrial Carbon Capture Track-1 Expansion project: a program, managed by the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero, to expand the UK’s carbon capture, usage, and storage capacities.

SUEZ has already secured funding for a pipeline to transport carbon captured at various industrial sites on Teesside to an offshore storage site beneath the North Sea.

The project comes as a continuation of SUEZ’s strategy to reduce the carbon output of its operations, including its investment in a low-carbon alternative to liquid petroleum gas (LPG).

Pre-FEED Partnerships

SUEZ has partnered with engineering and technology companies, Fluor and Technip Energies, as Pre-FEED contractors for its energy-from-waste facilities located in Teesside and Wilton, respectively. These facilities are set to connect directly to the East Coast Cluster pipeline, which secured government consent earlier this year.
