Solar park to be constructed on restored landfill in Essex
Infinis has received permission from Thurrock Council to build and operate a solar park in South Ockendon.
Thurrock Council has granted planning consent to low carbon energy generators, Infinis, for the construction and operation of a solar park on a restored landfill at Aveley, South Ockendon, Essex.
Jason McGray, Infinis’ Head of Development said: “We are delighted that Aveley solar park has received the go-ahead.
“Our business already captures methane on the site, to generate low-carbon power. Adding the solar park above ground means we can make good use of existing infrastructure and increase the amount of clean energy produced locally.”
Once completed, the new solar park will generate up to 17,000 MWh of renewable electricity annually, which is enough to power approximately 4,200 homes.
In addition to producing clean energy, the project will include environmental enhancements such as the planting of native hedgerows and improvements to grass quality to foster more diverse habitats for local wildlife.
The initiative is part of a broader partnership between Infinis and FCC Environment, following the completion of their first project at Winterton in 2023. Construction is also nearing completion on the Boston and Offham solar parks, with additional projects in development.
