PandaGreen expands UK presence with acquisition of WSR Recycling

PandaGreen continues to expand its waste management operations in the UK following its acquisition of Widnes-based waste management company, WSR Recycling Limited.

Part of the larger Panda Group, the Irish waste management company entered the UK market last year when it took ownership of New Earth Solutions, after that company had been sold off by its administrators. PandaGreen will now take over WSR’s Ditton Road site in Widnes, from where WSR provides waste management services across the North West of England.

Managing Director of PandaGreen Nick McCabe, and former owners and directors at WSR Nick and Amanda Prescott, have sought to assure customers that services and operations based at Ditton Road - including commercial waste collection across the North West, recycling at its Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and sorting waste to be sent to Energy from Waste (EfW) facilities - would continue as normal following the takeover.

WSR has been in business for over 25 years and has established working partnerships with other large waste management companies and local authorities in the North West, with Nick and Amanda Prescott now looking to move on and pursue other ventures.

They both took the time to thank the staff at WSR for their contribution in helping to drive the business forward.

Commenting on the acquisition, Brian McCabe said: "We are very excited to acquire WSR and it is our intention to continue with what is already in place, and to build and develop this even further, ensuring the company continues to provide the quality of service that customers have been used to. This acquisition is part of our strategic growth plans for the UK".

PandaGreen became the largest waste management company in Ireland last year after acquiring its largest competitor, Greenstar, a move that was subject to scrutiny by the Irish Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to determine whether it would ‘substantially lessen competition’ in parts of Ireland, but was later approved.

While PandaGreen’s takeover of WSR continues the expansion of the company’s waste operations, the group is also seeking to investigate further opportunities to grow and diversify its offerings in the UK, including through its new utility company, Panda Power, which provides renewable energy to domestic customers.
