Resource Use

It’s time to vote for this year’s Resource Hot100!

The waste and resources industry has had a busy year with leaders and innovators showing commitment to making a difference – a quality that we recognise in our annual industry poll, the Resource Hot 100.

Resource Hot100 logoVoting is now open for you to tell us who is making the biggest contribution to the circular economy. Now in its 20th year, our annual list recognises the most influential, creative and downright important people who have made a key difference to the way our waste resources are being managed and protected.

We have populated the Hot 100 website with nominees from previous years but if you don’t see someone that you feel is making a difference, it’s easy to nominate them – and they will be added to the list. Chances are other colleagues in the industry will feel the same and cast a vote for  them, too.

Last year’s winner was Stuart Hayward-Higham, Chief Technical Development and Innovation Officer at waste management company SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK.

Hayward-Higham’s work in making EPR, consistency, DRS, CCUS, carbon and other policy changes workable and accessible, helped the sector prepare for the necessary changes. With a career focused on driving new understanding through data and working with the whole value chain to deliver novel solutions, Stuart Hayward-Higham has always been at the forefront of change. He has helped clients manage transitions and make the very best out of UK waste legislation. Voters praised his knowledge and called his enthusiasm ‘contagious’.

As usual, last year’s Top 10 reflected the broad spectrum of roles that shape the waste resources sector, from politicians to campaigners, from innovators to brilliant thinkers and practitioners. And, this year, there will be four winners! As usual, there will be an overall winner, but this year we are introducing three categories that recognise the range of contributions:

  • Local Authority Leader of the Year
  • Innovator of the Year
  • Newcomer of the Year

These will reflect the highest placed person in the vote who qualifies for one of these categories.

We’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our sponsors, who make it possible for us to acknowledge and amplify the amazing work being done in the sector. Headlining this year is Untha UK, and our category sponsors are CIWM, Alupro and Recolight.

So, who will take this year’s various top spots? To cast your vote, visit the Resource Hot 100 site and tell us how your candidate is working towards a wasteless world. If more than one person caught your eye this year, then you can vote for them as well.

The poll will run until 31st July 2024, with the results published in September, via a countdown on our social media channels (Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook) and here on

Who do you think rates highest for inspiration? Who will prove unbeatable on innovation? Who has used their influence for good, and who has fought for improvement? We are excited to see who you choose.
