Circular Lighting Live 2024 addresses sustainability in lighting
Lighting sector event brought together industry to explore environmental solutions, artificial intelligence, carbon reduction, and eco-friendly materials.
Lighting industry professionals gathered in London in October at Circular Lighting Live 2024. The conference, which was organised by Recolight and hosted and curated by Ray Molony, editor of the Circular Lighting Report, provided attendees with updates, discussions, and solutions to reduce the environmental impact of the sector.
The gathering brought together 300 attendees, sponsors and speakers to discuss changes in the lighting sector, with particular focus given to the growing need for manufacturers to provide third party certified environmental metrics such as life cycle assessments (LCAs) and environmental product declarations (EPDs).
Recolight unveiled its partnership with One Click LCA at the event, which provides lighting manufacturers with an online tool designed to help create luminaire-specific LCAs and EPDs.
The conference also covered establishing and tracking a baseline carbon footprint and setting carbon reduction targets, as well as using newer, non-fossil fuel based bioplastics in lighting products.
Beyond environmental metrics, the impact of artificial intelligence on lighting production design and manufacture and the benefits of additive manufacturing (3D printing) were additionally discussed.
Martin Wherry, Commercial Director at Glamox, commented: “It showcased how the industry is coming together to innovate around circularity, pushing the boundaries of sustainable lighting design while embracing AI and digitalisation. The focus on reuse and refurbishment is exactly the kind of forward-thinking approach our sector needs to achieve net-zero goals.”
Throughout the event, attendees had the opportunity to connect with other lighting professionals, including sponsors Signify, Albis, ASD Lighting, BELL Lighting, FUTURE Designs, Glamox, Holophane Europe, Light Projects Evolve, Mymesh, Prime Light, Silent Design, Stoane Lighting, Tridonic, Trojan Lighting Solutions and Urbis Schreder.
Greg Bristol, Sustainability and Environment Office at ASD Lighting, added: “CLL2024 was a fantastic event. I came away awed by the challenge but inspired by the amazing people and companies working towards a more sustainable industry.”
Recolight has confirmed that Circular Lighting Live will return next year on 25 September 2025.
