Epro invites nominations for the Best Recycled Product 2012.
Members of the public and manufacturers are being asked to nominate what they think is the Best Recycled Product for The European Association of Plastics Recycling & Recovery Organisations (Epro) 2012 awards.
The Europe-wide competition hopes to find the best product made from recycled plastics and has announced that this year, the category for Best Recycled Product will be made open to the public for the first time. Voting can be done online or via social media and is hoped will not only highlight the huge range of recycled plastic products on the market but increase the scope of the products nominated.
Epro spokesman Eirik Oland said the key objective of the competition was to raise awareness of the value of “products made from recycled plastics packaging, in turn showcasing a wide range of recycled products, thus creating a demand and maybe an appetite for new companies to start to design and manufacture more products made from recycled plastic”, adding that it would also help consumers “more fully understand the scope of their environmentally friendly actions.”
As well as consumer-nominated products, Epro is also looking for product manufacturer entries, with products adhering to the following criteria:
- Contain at least 50 per cent post-consumer or post-industrial waste
- Been a marketable product from the last two years
- Sold at least one unit
- Be a B2B or consumer product
- Proven documentation of sustainability
- Made in Europe
- Be made of recycled used plastics packaging
Last year’s winners included: Cavalluccio, childrens play equipment by EUROCOMITALIA S.R L, Italy; the Zebra, a Cycle lane indicator by ZICLA, Spain; and Senseo Viva Café Eco, a Coffee Machine by Philips NV, Belgium.
A panel consisting of representatives of EPRO, PlasticsEurope, EUPR, EUPC and ACR+ from across Europe will assess the entries and announced the winners at the IdentiPlast 2012 congress in Warsaw on 6-7 November 2012.
The closing date for entries is 20 September. Full details on the awards can be found on the Epro website.
