Deadline to apply for Sustainability and Resource Award loomingThe awards which aim to recognise outstanding achievements in a variety of operational and academic disciplines, with prizes are up for grabs for the best recycling projects, communications campaigns, project innovation, reuse initiatives and facility operations as well as a number of research-based categories.

Television impressionist and comedian Alistair McGowen will be on hand to present the awards, at the awards evening, organised by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) and sponsored by waste management software manufacturer AMCS Group, will take place on 3 November at the Grosvenor Square Marriott in Central London.

A panel of experts from the sustainability, resource and waste industry will judge the entries to the awards (a full list of the categories can be found below), with those shortlisted standing a chance of being presented the award in front of over 400 people at November’s ceremony.

Spirit of innovation

Being shortlisted for an award at the event offers teams the chance to be recognised for great work over the course of a year, as well as providing publicity for programmes. CIWM Chief Executive Steve Lee said: “There is a great spirit of innovation in resource management and it deserves to be recognised. I wish good luck to all this year’s entrants.”

The stories that arise from the awards also help to spread a positive message about what is happening in the waste and resources industry, and the great steps that are being taken to transform not only the industry itself, but how the public can live more sustainable, as McGowen attests: “It’s always inspiring to find out what people and companies are doing.

“As a committed environmentalist of 25 years, it is sometimes easy to lose heart as behavioural change has not been as quick, as widespread or as visible as one would hope, but I always find myself buoyed up by these sort of events and am always moved to find that there are so many other people determined to make a difference to the future of the world on a daily basis and to preserve our beautiful planet”.

More information about the awards and application process can be found on the CIWM website.
