The shortlist has been announced for the UK Sustainability & Resource Industry Awards 2014.

CIWM Sustainability & Resource Industry Awards 2014

Organised by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM), the awards ‘recognise and reward innovation, achievement and best practice in the sustainable management of waste and resources’, both within the waste sector and across a range of client sectors including construction and facilities management.

The 2014 shortlisted entries are:

  • Award for Innovation: Dorset Waste Partnership, Falkirk Council, FCC Environment, HH Global, John F Hunt Demolition Ltd
  • ISYS Award for Innovation (SME): Dunton Environmental, GroCycle, Siltbuster Ltd, ReCon Waste Management, WRc plc
  • The Recycling Registration Service Community Champion Award: Disco Soup Oxford, Bulky Bobs, Greenredeem, Hills Waste Solutions
  • EPIC Media Communications Campaign Award: Cumbria County Council, Dorset Waste Partnership, Southampton City Council, Suffolk Waste Partnership
  • ERM Energy Recovery Award: Chinook Sciences, Clarke Energy, FCC Environment, ReFood UK , SRCL Limited
  • Finning Health and Safety Best Practice Award: East Riding and York Council, FCC Environment, Serco Ltd
  • Local Authority Waste Hierarchy Award: Caerphilly County Borough Council, Inverclyde Council, North London Waste Authority, Swansea Waste Management Services
  • NFDC Sustainable Construction & Demolition Award: BAM Building Ireland, John F Hunt Demolition Ltd, Volkerfitzpatrick Ltd
  • P & L Software Sustainable Facilities Management Award: DHL Supply Chain/ JD Wetherspoon, University College London
  • Hopdeals.comVehicle, Plant & Equipment of the Year Award: Hako Machines Ltd, Rubblemaster, Vision Techniques
  • Rubble Master Zero Waste Award: DS Smith Recycling, Hain Daniels Chilled Foods Luton, Biffa - Premier Foods(Moy Park), SAICA Natur UK Ltd, Wingland Foods
  • Catalyst Corporate Finance Waste Fast 50 Award: New Earth Solutions, Transwaste Recycling And Aggregates, Redeem, Salvation Army Trading Company, Associated Waste Management, Roydon Polythene, Glass Recycling UK, G.I. Hadfield & Son, Specialist Waste Recycling, Reconomy

CIWM Chief Executive Steve Lee said: “The quality of the 2014 entries demonstrates just how much innovation and vision there is out there, with companies both within our industry and beyond showing a real commitment to rising to a wide range of waste and resource management opportunities and challenges.”

Judging has also been completed for the eight CIWM Professional Awards, except for the Peel People’s Cup, where the shortlisted teams are Addenbrooke’s Hospital Clinical Waste Incinerator, the TEG Group’s Binn Farm facility, and Belfast City Council’s Dargan transfer station.

All the winners will be announced by TV presenter and adventurer Helen Skelton at the awards lunch on 6 November at the Marriott London in Grosvenor Square.
